The season kicked off on Twelth Night, January 6 with homebrew, gumbo, and
the first King Kake of Two Double Aught Seven. We've already bifurcated as it's
a short season, with two parties a week!
This year's theme is: "Amphibian Suffrage."
Last year's theme was "Commuting the death sentence of global warming."
The 2006 theme was: "Get Mo Betta." The year before that's theme (2005) was: "The World is a Little Bit Under the Weather" (Doodle Loop -The Meters)
Berkeley Mardi Gras has been an annual tradition all about Berkeley for over thirteen years! Each year on Fat Tuesday (the same day as Mardi Gras in New Orleans), the Berkeley Mardi Gras parade takes to the streets for an all-day roving costume party.
A free lunch in People's Park and music and performance at the Farmer's Market are regular features. The parade generally begins at daybreak at the top of Derby Creek and usually finishes at a grand party somewhere in North Oakland...join up any time during the day, check the map (see flyers, below) for great hop-portunities!
KING CAKE season has already begun: theme parties are held each week in which a cake is served, leading up to the big day. Each cake has a special toy hidden inside. Whoever gets the piece with the prize holds the next party!

--------------- You might even get on teevee! --------------- >>>>>>>>>>>>
Here in Berkeley folks celebrate the ONE TRUE CHURCH OF THE GREAT GREEN FROG. Don't worry, people from other denominations are welcome, and it's all in good fun. You don't have to be an ardent frog worshipper to parade in Berkeley, but it sure helps!

This site has enmjoyed over 1007 visitors this Mardi Gras season, and the day is young!
